Another 3D printed Microman scale (1/18) CD-1-L Blockman figure has been added to the ranks! This one was a commission by a big Micro collector and friend of mine, looking to add some cross-pollinated SFLand action to his collection. This guy was painted at the same time as the Brute Squad Bounce Torotise, featuring similar techniques and finish. Painted with Monster Kolor and acrylics.

The Tenacious Toys and Monster Kolor Custom Toy Show opens at P!Q in Grand Central Terminal NYC tonight. The theme of the show was toys painted with Monster Kolor paints, and what would an MK show be without some real type, flat finish, weathered 3D printed mecha action? I was asked to participate and couldn’t say no. I was pretty short on time, but I was able to dig into my stash and piece together one last classic 1/12 scale Bounce Tortoise, the last of its kind. This Tortoise is from Brute Squad, featuring a red and white scheme where I tried some new tricks for adding color variation while applying the main colors, and a new acrylic wash mix that I’m pretty pleased with. The other thing I tried on this guy was to skip my usual chipping step. All the weathering here is a combination of airbrushed fading, color modulation, and washes. I’m pretty pleased with the results, and hope to see some great pics of the last Bounce Tortoise making its debut at the opening tonight!

Myself, Bronnoize, and Mecha Zone have teamed up with our pal Jesse to have him paint and release some figures from each of our respective lines, and they look great. More good news! The unofficial Prometheus Rising Heavy Industries Glyos ‘Real Type’ release is now up on the Monster Kolor web shop. This is a project long in the making. Some of these customs were started a few years ago, but I finally had some time recently to sit down and finish them (and more!) There are fourteen customs in a variety of builds and themes, from a couple simple Travellers to heavily customized builds. Everything is painted with Monster Kolor paints, with acrylics, oils, and pigments for the heavy weathering they all received. A couple feature rare production Glyos heads spruced up, and one even has the last of my Brownnoize Productions metal cast Phanost heads. Each one of these is fully finished and weathered, and thanks to the MK paint they are totally durable and playable. The first Microman scale Blockman release debuted at Super Robot Giant Monster as a last minute addition. I have reworked these guys a bit to be easier to assemble, and can now print them in color! The Blockmen available were printed in three or four colors with Monster Kolor chromed silver accents. They also included as weapon for the first time.
The first set of Blockman armor was also on display as a work in progress. There are three vintage sets of armor for the Blockman figures, and I’d like to get to them all some day. The armor is fully compatible with each of the figures sold, so I could offer armor sets on their own in the future for people who already Blockmen. The armor is big and takes a lot of work to make, so I’m still trying to figure out how a release would work.

These anime-inspired Stalking Toads made their debut at Super Robot Giant Monster. My goal for these was to invoke some more traditional mecha anime colors, rounded out with a lighter weathering than normal so as not to overpower the color scheme. I finished them off with a few glossy Monster Kolor silver weapon details that mimic the chrome bits on classic Japanese robot toys.

These winter whitewash Bounce Tortoises made their debut at Super Robot Giant Monster. I tried out a new technique on these, painting the brown and tan base colors with Monster Kolor, and then applying an acrylic whitewash over MIG Absolute Chipping, an incredible new product for doing chipped and weathered paint applications. I’m pretty happy with how my first attempt came out, but I certainly have more to learn. Some oil and enamel work, plus weathering pigments round out the package.

The first ever Super Robot Giant Monster event hosted by CollectionDX was a huge success this past weekend. The event was at Mill No.5 in Lowell, MA, which turned out to be a terrific venue. The turnout was well beyond my expectations, and I had a chance to talk to a ton of people interested in 3D printing and robot toys, my two favorite hobbies. Prometheus Rising Studios was well represented, splitting a table with Brownnoize Productions and bringing four toy releases to the show. I have a few extras of each release left, and will post details about a web release soon. For the rest of the week, enjoy full photo galleries of the toys I brought!
