I recently picked up a loose Transformers G1 Hosehead that was missing all of the accessories except for the head. This guy is always crazy expensive for some reason, so I spent a little time and made some 3D printed replacement accessories to complete mine. These are available now from Shapeways in two listings, one is a sprue of all the black parts and the other is the seat/helmet. You can pick them up now from the PRHI Shapeways Store. The pics here are of my home-printed samples. The parts are close copies from reference pictures, but not exact copies so you’ll be able to tell them apart.

The new Transformers toys are really spectacularly made. I might not actually enjoy the movies, but there’s no denying that the films had a hugely positive influence on the toys and the line in general. The biggest problem with the current movie toys is that Hasbro is pretty cheap about paint, so the figures always look pretty flat compared to their on-screen counterparts. Compare the above and after the jump photos to this shot of the figure out of the package:
Yuck. This guy is a Wal*Mart exclusive repaint of Sidearm Sideswipe, a concept Corvette in a pretty slick homage-filled rally car deco. It makes a pretty serviceable movie Bluestreak. I up-detailed this guy while preserving the scheme and details that made this version cool. Tons and tons of pics after the fold.

Vinyl figures conquer the shelves! Phil Reed’s (from Battlegrip.com) gonna hate this update… he’s currently trying to keep himself from falling off the vinyl cliff, and here I am pushing just about every robot toy I own out of the way for more vinyl! I’ve got standard-sized Kaiju up the wazoo… I’ve got a separate space for unpainted M1 Kaiju, sort of as holding area for them, and then a Max Toy Co shelf, with more Neo Eyezons on the way, and an ‘everything else’ standard-sized shelf. On the bottom is the Real X Head shelf… I’ve been having alot of fun seeing all the different colorways out there… especially in the Chaos family. Of note are the two Mark Nagata handpaints, Toybot Studios Rock and Roll Kemur Seijin, the SDCC Goto-san painted Drazoran, M1 Lucky Bag Red Ultraman, and the awesome Superfest Kikaida paint-scheme Chaos Adult.

My latest package from Japan showed up, filling in some big holes in my collection, including a MIB Metalhawk, Dezaras, and Micromaster Rabbicrater, the figure that was exclusively packed in with the original Zone OVA VHS!
This is more of a ‘blog’ post than a display post, but I figured I’d throw it up here for people to see. I am a through and through TF fan and remember watching G2 on the TV. Fast forward 10 or 15 years, and now I’m into the hard stuff- Japanese G1. I got hooked up with a guy who helped me grab many of the easy to find stuff like Star Saber, Vic Leo, and Overlord for decent prices, and even found a Dai Atlas for cheap, and then overpaid for a boxed Sonic Bomber, but there was one sneaky bastard that eluded me: Roadfire C-349. On the TF wiki page, the caption under the picture of Roadfire reads “You’ll never own me”, and I took that as a challenge. RF’s not necessarily the most expensive G1 TF by a long shot, but damned if he’s not just about the rarest. Right when I was getting into the good stuff, I lost a loose incomplete broken RF for a whole bunch of money on ebay, and then did not see another one for almost a full year. Cut to about two weeks ago, and after a big binge of older super robot stuff on YHJ, I thought to myself ‘I should check ebay again for Roadfire…’ and there it was: boxed complete with unapplied stickers and some moderate yellowing. I had to have it… fortunately for me, the same seller was unloading a metric ton of good looking G1 stuff including other Japanese items, and it seemed to distract the competition, because I won RF for significantly less than my max bid with little competition in the critical last 5 minutes. The bugger showed up the other day, and I was in heaven… Reprolabels are in the air, and I’m going to look into the hydrogen peroxide method for the yellowing… here’s some love shots of the Zone base all setup (missing Sonic Bomber’s Micromaster… one more elusive piece of the set) and a shot of the three Powered Masters together, and a box pic of my JP G1 stuff so far.
