PRHI Micro Moving Mecha Production Release- April 13th, 8PM EST   Leave a comment

Salespic copy

The newest 3D printed Prometheus Rising Heavy Industries action figure release is finally ready!  The PRHI Micro Moving Mecha production release is a project that has been in the works for much longer than I expected.  This 3 3/4″ tall, fully posable action figure is designed as a ‘what-if?’, asking what might have happened if Takara had gotten the license for Mobile Suit Gundam instead of the toy company Clover.  Based on a sketch by the illustrious Minoru Sashida, the Micro Moving Mecha depicts the Gundam as a Microman line diecast metal figure similar to the Jeeg and Gakeen figures released at the time.  The MMM is 3D printed in color, using silver plastic for the limbs and head to represent bare metal, with colored details only for the torso and accessories.  The toy features 5 mm peg construction in the major places, with 3 mm diameter hands, meaning that the MMM can hold some vintage Microman accessories, and that authentic Microman figures can wield the MMM’s Clover-inspired Beam Rifle and Beam Sabers.

The PRHI MMM will come in a bag with header and will be available in the PRHI Monster Kolor Shop (http://www.monsterkolorstore.com/prhi/) on April 13th at 8PM EST for $25.  I’ll put up a new post on the site with a direct link to the sales page on the night of the drop.  For now, enjoy the pics!

Bandai Patlabor Ingram Unit 3 1/60 scale kit   Leave a comment

Bandai-Patlabor-Ingram-01

I built up this old school Bandai 1/60 scale kit of Ingram Unit 3 from Mobile Police Patlabor for a friend.  There were two goals for this build- first, to replace the gross rubber joint covers with sewn cloth parts, and second to keep the finish looking pretty clean, with a softer 80’s model kit finish.  The covers were made with some help from my mom, and came out perfect.  The paint job was a bit of a departure for me, but it was a fun experiment.  In the Patlabor anime, Unit 3 is the reserve machine that’s mostly kept around for spare parts, so it does not see much action. That meant it should have a pretty clean finish, but I couldn’t help doing a little shading and dust buildup as if Unit 3 had been drafted into active duty during a particularly busy season.  The support car got a little more road dust and rain streaking from everyday use.

Here’s a shot of Unit 3 squaring off against the CMS Corp Economy Model Ingram.  The scale is not quite right, but they still look great together.  Check out lots more pics after the jump, showing off the rest of the accessories and more scale comparisons.

PRHI Space Blasters – Star Wars Black 6″ Shocktrooper Backpack and RT-97C Sandtrooper Rifle   4 comments

PRHI-SH-BP-08

Today I’ve got two new 3D printed Star Wars 6″ scale accessories available now in the PRHI Shapeways Shop.  First is a backpack for the Star Wars Battlefront Shocktrooper, and the second is the RT-97C Heavy Blaster Rifle wielded by Sandtroopers in the original film.  Both parts are available in Black Strong Flexible material and can be used as-is when you receive them.  I added the lightest bit of drybrushing and blocked in a few details for these photos to show off how sharp the prints came out.

PRHI 3D Printed ‘Box’ Mk I and Mk II 1/6 Scale Kit Printable Files   Leave a comment

I posted the PRHI ‘Box’ Mk I 3D printed toy a while back.  It was designed as an exercise for me to try out some new joint designs.  It’s a bootleg of ThreeA’s Square toy, with some additional detail and accessory bits by me.  I had never really planned on using this model for anything more, but I have received a couple requests to share the files.  Sort of an ‘open source’ Square bootleg.  I’m hosting a .zip folder of the STL files needed to print your own ‘Box’ for personal purposes.  The models are intended to be printed in ABS plastic, as I do not believe PLA has the elasticity for the ratchet joints in the legs to work properly.  In addition to the Box Mk I, I am posting files for the Box Mk II, which I do not believe I have ever shown off before:

Here are download links for the two sets of files.  Each is a .zip folder containing all the parts needed to print a PRHI Box.  Parts that need to be printed more than once are labeled as such in the filename.  These are provided as-is, with no support.  If you print one and do something cool with it, send me an email!

No wonder R5’s motivator was bad after such poor maintenance.

Bandai Star Wars Droids 1/12 Plamo Models – R2-D2, C-3PO, R5-D4   Leave a comment

Since Disney took over the Star Wars property, it has been a licensing free-for-all, with a massive influx of products from every manufacturer imaginable.  The best toy and model products, of course, are coming from Japan.  Bandai has been making some excellent new SW toys and models, including these new 1/12 scale plastic kits of some of some of the franchise’s most famous droids.  The kits are masterworks of engineering, just like Bandai’s Gundam plamo lines.  They are designed to be built without paint, with most parts molded in color and decals for the rest.  In C-3PO’s case, the entire kit came with a vacuum-formed chrome finish.  I used the kit colors, but obviously couldn’t leave them so crisp and clean.  I applied the kit decals, painted the silver bits with a better metallic color (Monster Kolor!), and then hit everything with a coat of satin varnish.  3PO did not need any additional paint except for the wires, belly bit, and his palms.  From there, I went to town with the weathering, showing these three after some hard times trudging through the sands of Tatooine.  I’ll be posting full galleries of each this week, so check back!
