Just a couple of filthy, corrupted Death Guard warriors. The plastic starter set Hellbrute is super cheap and easy to get, but the fully mechanized classic metal Chaos Dreadnought feels more appropriate for a Death Guard army. That metal Dread is a bear to assemble. I ended up using most of a tube of JB Kwik Weld to fill in the gaps, and ended up mounting the arms using polycaps for durability and posability.
Nurgle Daemons are the heralds and embodiment of death and decay, spreading pestilence wherever they tread. They are gross and grimy, which makes for very fun painting. Most of these were done quick and easy with lots of washes over a light, drybrushed basecoat. For a little extra fun, I painted the carapaces of the fly daemons with Monster Kolor paints and left them with a high-gloss finish. It gives them a little extra insect authenticity.

My interest in Warhammer 40k has been greatly revitalized this year with the release of the 8th edition of the game, which greatly streamlined the rules. With the much lower barrier to entry and release of an all new Death Guard line of Chaos Space Marine models, 40k has been monopolizing my hobby time for months now. The Death Guard are Heretic Adeptus Astartes that have pledged themselves to the Chaos god Nurgle, god of death and decay. They are 1oo% my jam, with loads of opportunities for gross gribbly bits and, most importantly, filthy, dirty, rusty armor. I wanted to add some armored support to my fledgling army before the full Codex came out, which meant Chaos Predators. I am basing my army on the 2nd Plague Company of the Death Guard, hosts of the Ferric Blight. I am modeling them as a well-equipped Vectorum, with lots of relic armor and equipment that has decayed over the millenia, but not mutated as much as other Death Guard armies. I wanted to use old style Predator tanks that have survived since the Heresy, but I was not married to the Deimos Predator kit from Forge World’s design, or to the idea of paying for those. Instead, I decided to make my own as a bit of a challenge, to see if I could come up with nice gaming-quality models for 3D printing that would not look out of place on the table alongside official models. I had previously printed some Rhinos from files I downloaded on Thingiverse, which I used as the starting point for my own Rhino-based vehicles. I mostly was trying to avoid having to model the tank treads, so the existing files were a great starting point. From there, I decided to blend the details of the Forge World Deimos kit for the turret and front armor with the original Predator Tank kit from Games Workshop for the armored side sponsons. For a clunky, millenia-maintained tank, I added some stovepipe exhaust stacks to the sides. In the first image above, the grey sides of the tank are the existing files I borrowed from Thingiverse, and everything in black was drafted by me from scratch. The rest of the pics above show the progress of the tanks, from bare plastic to acetoned and primed, then base colored with an airbrush, and finally detailed and weathered for maximum grunginess. Toy de Jour in Chicago is hosting an unofficial Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed Group Toy Show opening on Friday, March 3rd. I was happy to get the opportunity to contribute to my first gallery show in quite a while, as it gave me the motivation to finish a new figure design that I’ve been working on for a while. The Roadkill Rodney robots appear in the original TMNT cartoon pilot season, as well as the early games as really obnoxious enemies. They are great little designs that play an important role in the show, capturing the animals used to make Bebop and Rocksteady, and causing the Turtles general grief. Unfortunately, Playmates never released a toy of them in the original toyline. Now, you can purchase your own fully 3D printed Roadkill Rodney figure, debuting at the show in an exclusive chromed up finish! Also making his public debut is my MACC figure from one of my favorite episodes, Attack of Big MACC. MACC has made a few brief appearances on my Instagram before now, but this is his first release, also in a swanky chrome finish. Both figures one-offs will be available at the show on Friday, and I am planning a regular production release of each for the summertime.

The Rodney figure turned out great, and I’m really excited to get them out there. Each figure features articulation at the ‘waist’, wheel, and shoulders, with a swappable tentacle part. The display stand is removable and the wheel really rolls. I’ve been having a lot of fun with these early test figures, and have some plans for further tweaks and options down the line. The chrome finish was a bit of an experiment that I’m pretty happy with the results of.
MACC features articulation at the neck, shoulders, guns, and waist. It’s a goofy, awkward design that makes for a fun little figure that looks great alongside your Turtles.

A friend of mine told me about an awesome product known as Space Walls, which are unofficial Death Star corridor backdrop segments for use with your Star Wars action figures. The main line is designed for 6″ Star Wars Black scale, and the individual segments look great. Unfortunately, when my friend purchased some Space Walls, they did not come with any sort of connectors to attach the wall segments or help them stand up, which limited their usefulness. He asked me if I could fix this, so I now have four types of PRHI Space Walls Connectors available through my Shapeways Shop. The four types accommodate the two different styles of wall as shown below, plus pieces to help the walls stand, and corner connectors for more intricate displays. You can purchase the connectors now to improve your setups!

Here’s a little for fun item available now in the PRHI Shapeways Shop. I had a request to make a version of my Gonk Droid toy in 25 mm scale for gaming. The mini Gonk is available in Shapeways’ high-detail plastics for use with your minis, but you can also order a teensy weensy baby Gonk in Stainless Steel! Shown above with a vintage Kenner 3 3/4″ Jawa. The detail came out far better than I was expecting, and it makes for a delightful little bit of hand-gokin. Pick up one today from the shop!
There is a whole host of new 3D printed replacement accessories for your vintage robots available now in the PRHI Shapeways Shop. You can now buy replacement shooting fists for all of your Takara Jeeg and Gakeen magnemos, and Mego Micronauts figures such as Baron Karza or Force Commander. Also available are Microman MicroGander replacement fists with and without 5 mm holes to hold accessories, and replacement missiles that will fit in the chest and foot launchers. For you vinyl fans, you can now pick up missiles for your vintage Bandai Missile Fire Vinyls (MFV). The nice thing about having a set of 3D model files drawn up for something is that the files can be scaled to any size you want, and printed out. Some adjustments were needed, but once I had my models ready for my PRHI Kenner Star Wars Accessories, I was able to print the same designs out, but at lifesize! Kenner’s Star Wars weapon sculpts are iconic amongst vintage toys, with a level of detail and charm informed by how those early toys came to be. They are immediately recognizable as representative of what we saw in the films, but they are an interpretation with their own merits. As such, it turns out that they make really satisfying lifesize toys, with chunky details and familiar shapes. So far I’ve completed two of the first weapons made, the smuggler pistol and imperial blaster rifle, as well as the later-made lightsaber, and my personal favorite, the Bespin blaster. I am working through more of the catalog and will post pics when they’re completed! Now I just need to figure out how to display them.

There are a number of new items available now in the PRHI Shapeways Shop. You can now complete your vintage Kenner Star Wars figures with some 3D printed weapons! The PRHI Kenner replacement weapon series is available in multiple colors of polished Strong Flexible plastics and grey metallic plastic. Each gun comes as a sprue of four, and each weapon is marked with a ‘R’ molded into the handles for easy identification. The first series is available now, with more on the way.
