In Living Kolor Boston!   Leave a comment

In Living Kolor Boston was this weekend and it was a blast!  Seven hours of driving both ways to Lot F Gallery, an awesome gallery space tucked away right in Boston, were well worth it.  A ton of people showed up for both the live painting and the gallery opening, and a ton of toys got painted.  Max Toy Co, Onell, and resin artist Dustin Nakagawa all provided a pile of blanks for painting.  It was great to see old friends, make new ones, and see people who had never painted before try out Monster Kolor spraycans and airbrushing.  I painted the mini Eyezon above, on clear green vinyl with sparkles…

…this mini Argus on red vinyl.  I slathered it with pink peal, and then tried out the MK rattle can matte finish, which gave it a great finish.

I also picked up this awesome little resin by Dustin Nakagawa, named Gamusa.  He’s clearly inspired by Zollmen’s Zudon, but has some differences that make him stand out, and is a perfectly sized and shaped little resin buddy.  I also worked on a blank Gamusa that I will post up when I finish.

Another shot of Gamusa.  The loose sprays work really well on the rough sculpt, and manage to highlight the details really well.  I should also mention that this guy has a great heft to him, and seems to be cast from a really nice resin.

Restore Debris Japan Contest- Gikaku, False Oni   2 comments

This Oni was born blind and hornless, and named Gikaku (フェイク鬼- ‘false Oni’).  He was too embarrassing to keep after waiting so long for his birth, so a prosthetic horn (義角) was fused to his head and he was cast out.  Now, Gikaku travels alone, appearing only in place of a person being expected.  To see Gikaku is a terrible curse, and he is greatly feared.  The fundoshi reads ‘Great curse (dai-kyō, 大凶)’ and ‘待人 (machibito) – a person being waited for’, based on Omikuji fortune terms.

Sunguts Xabungle Walk Machines   Leave a comment

When not making fun, weird kaiju, Sunguts took the time a few years back to make a vinyls of a pair of the secondary Walk Machine mecha from Xabungle.  The ‘work’ mecha in Xabungle were all pretty goofy, so they make for great sofubi.  Even the roll-cage frames are vinyl, after having had the inside parts cut out.  Something I never realized until I got mine were that they also come with little DIY flesh vinyl pilot busts that you need to trim, and paint if desired.  Obviously I painted them.  The pilot busts are about a quarter of an inch tall, so I threw a little color on them to make them stand out.

I made this image using photos from my own collection and my 3A NW NOM Commander and Heavy Bramble, which I have really been enjoying lately.  After the fold are hi-res versions for 1920 and 1680-width monitors for your wallpaper use, if you are interested.

Cris Rose Bits and Bytes DIY Painted by PRS! (Mega post)   Leave a comment

Cris Rose is a UK-based artist that is into analog photography and robots.  His resin robots are functional, yet cute.  There are back stories to all of his designs.  Cris imagines a world where robots are ubiquitous servants, everywhere from industrial labor to childcare.  I had a great time painting up a pack of his recent Bits and Bytes mini-sized (1/24 scale) DIY ‘bots, each with their own background.  Keep in mind each of these minis is around an inch tall, and check after the fold for pics of each!

Vira Seijin custom at FOE   Leave a comment

The FOE Monster Invitational show has come and gone, and it was awesome.  Huge thanks to FOE for hosting the show and inviting me, and thank you to everyone who supported my work by buying a vinyl, Microculture, or just dropping me a line to say they liked the look of something I did.  For those in the last category, I am pleased to report that Jim has allowed the Real Type Vira Seijin to remain in the shop and online at a new slightly reduced price of $140.  If you were interested before, be sure to swing by to take another look!  If you are headed to the actual shop, be sure to check out the remaining Microcultures, which are currently still exclusive to FOE.

Marmit Parababy Mogera with Missile Truck   Leave a comment

This was a commissioned pair of figures by a man after my own heart, a Mogera collector.  I wanted to contrast the alien war machine of Mogera with the grungy Ground Defense Force missile truck.

Real X Head Zombie Akro-kaiser   Leave a comment

This bad boy is one of my contributions to the July Monster Invitational Show at FOE.  He’s dark and scary, and I went super technical on this one.  Everything is Monster Kolor except the shiny blood drip detail work.

Super7 x Paul Kaiju Partyball ‘Khornate’   Leave a comment

Partyball is Paul Kaiju’s contribution to the Monster Family line, and a super fun little sculpt.  This custom will be at the  FOE Monster Invitational Show in July.  I continued my experimentation with mixed finishes and also tried something else in a fit of inspiration.  I had been looking at Warhammer 40k models and was inspired to try out some more technical airbrushing to do glowing engraved symbols.
