New Toys!   Leave a comment

Got some new toys with some unbelievable paint.

Max Toy Co mini Xam painted by Mark Nagata.

Accompanied by an unpainted white mini Maxx that is just gorgeous!

I also purchased this mind-blowing Toygraph Death Climax UFO Monster Gunhead in yummy flesh vinyl painted by the master, Dead Presidents.  Walker pulled out all the stops, and his crazy colors and Monster Kolor paint really shine on this massive beast.

The Guhead is supposed to terrorize Toygraph’s Space Troopers, but Dead Presidents’s new Cosmic Squadron troopers do everything the Space Troopers set out to do better, bigger, and much prettier.

No-mad escapes from the beast’s clutches, lines up the shot his life depends on, and holds his breath!

MFV Missiles Are Ready!   Leave a comment

Head to the Store because the MFV missiles are ready!  Complete those vintage classics and finally get to enjoy their best feature.  Every missile is marked for authenticity and indetifiability, and has been test loaded and fired in Getter-1 here.  Let me tell you, loading and firing twenty-odd missiles multiple times and at various things to test their loading and durability is pretty darn fun!

Secret Base King Walder Skull Brain (green)   Leave a comment

The early Secret Base fight figures were heavily inspired by the aesthetics of the Henshin Cyborg line, more specifically by the Walders.  The King Walders were the enemies of the Cyborgs, and were clear colored figures with vinyl guts instead of mechanical innards.  The Walder like included three evil original character costumes in vinyl, and are some of the most iconic vintage Japanese figures.  It was only fitting, then, that some of the earliest colorways for the Skull Brain, the second Secret Base sculpt, were directly inspired by the King Walder figures.  I got the green version in the mail today, and it is an awesome figure.  The clear vinyl head and colors of the inner head mimic the colors of the green Walder and his Plantman evil costume, and look great.  The outer head covering is actually made of super soft vinyl, which I was not expecting, but is completely awesome.

Skull Brains look best duking it out with Skull Bees…

Prometheus Rising Studios Casting: Bandai MFV Missiles!   Leave a comment

There’s a new Page in the Menu bar at the top of the site, and I am proud to announce a new resin product that will soon be available, reproduction Bandai Missile Firing Vinyl missiles!  The Bandai MFVs are some of the most iconic vintage Super Robot vinyls, but missiles are in great demand (mostly because these were toys designed for children, and those children probably spent all their time shooting the missiles at their younger siblings and pets until they lost the missiles), but I am pleased to soon be able to offer an affordable reproduction missile!  Big thanks to my friend Sanjeev (mastermind behind Brownnoize Productions) for lending me some vintage missiles, no mean feat!  I am figuring out pricing and ordering, as well as working on some stock, so check back for details soon!

Secret Base Not Dead Skullbee   1 comment

Secret Base is right up with Real X Head as one of the leading Japanese designer vinyl makers.  Where RXH has been constantly moving forward and evolving with new sculpts in the same line, Secret Base has branched out greatly over the years, collaborating with all sorts of other artists from the music and tattoo scenes, none of which make much sense to me.  Secret Base started with a cool line of fight figures that have rotated in and out of their main focus for a while now.  When I saw this new Skullbee (the first SB fight figure sculpt) on the SB blog, however, I was sold.  Soft glass-clear vinyl mixed with iridescent rainbow glitter and a classy color combination, along with a signature Secret Base logo print on the back all combined together to make a really interesting figure that looks great and feels great in hand!  I have some extra plush guts from another Secret Base figure at home that I’m going to stuff inside this guy, but that is a tale for another day.

Took some time to snap photos of a few new figures that have been holding my interest lately.

From SDCC 2010, painted by Fig Lab, this Armored Blobpus GID.  Gorgeous glow vinyl with a special set of resin battle armor for the fearsome blob.

SDCC2010 Yamazakura Devil Mermaid.  This is the first release of this figure, and I think it’s awesome.  Fight figure sized with a great pose, detail, and design!

Elegab Oil Shock.  Another unbelievable standard-sized kaiju from Nari… huge size, fantastic articulation, and a sculpt jam-packed with detail and character.

And lastly, the biggest score of my last YJA run… an original Bullmark Moguera, my favorite kaiju sculpt, vintage or modern.  Having this figure in hand is just surreal… you can see tool marks in the sculpt, and it is very clearly a handcrafted figure.  It also has foot writing, a dividing factor among vintage collectors.  It was common practice for kids to write their names on the foot of their vinyl figures back in the day, so they knew who’s figure was who’s after a big battle in the sandbox.  Some collectors prefer un-marked figures for their mintyness, but I would rather have a marked figure, because it gives the figure a little more history, and I know that the toy led a long and successful life as a child’s plaything before becoming an object of adult collectors’ lust.  What’s funny about my particular figure is that, instead of a child’s name, the foot is actually marked with ‘Moguera’, the character’s name… someone way back labeled the figure, maybe so the kid wouldn’t forget its name?  Who knows, but it’s a wild little facet of the toy’s history.

Prometheus Rising Studios Photos on Le Studio Plastique!   Leave a comment

The Le Studio Plastique exhibit The 100 Greatest Kaiju Battles went live this morning, and it is even cooler than I could have expected.  The curator, Olivier, did a fantastic job organizing the various photos by theme, and you should look through all of them.
