Shelves!   2 comments

New shelves!  The Real X Head has all been rearranged again to show off all the Chaoses, and I got some more ro-butts back into the mix.  No real room for Iron Man tho… also redid the Neo Eyezons and Glyos stuff, but that’s still in progress.  I’m still not happy with the top shelf either.  It’s mostly spillover right now from re-doing the standard-sized vinyl shelf.  I un-segregated the Max Toy Co stuff, and put all the heroes in the center, surrounded by my favorite of the standard kaiju.  The 3A stuff is all destined to be re-arranged as well, as 3A shipping-magedon should be starting soon, and lasting most of the summer from what I understand.  Hence no shots of the 1/6 stuff either.

Collection Update   Leave a comment

Vinyl figures conquer the shelves!  Phil Reed’s (from Battlegrip.com) gonna hate this update… he’s currently trying to keep himself from falling off the vinyl cliff, and here I am pushing just about every robot toy I own out of the way for more vinyl!  I’ve got standard-sized Kaiju up the wazoo… I’ve got a separate space for unpainted M1 Kaiju, sort of as holding area for them, and then a Max Toy Co shelf, with more Neo Eyezons on the way, and an ‘everything else’ standard-sized shelf.  On the bottom is the Real X Head shelf… I’ve been having alot of fun seeing all the different colorways out there… especially in the Chaos family.  Of note are the two Mark Nagata handpaints, Toybot Studios Rock and Roll Kemur Seijin, the SDCC Goto-san painted Drazoran, M1 Lucky Bag Red Ultraman, and the awesome Superfest Kikaida paint-scheme Chaos Adult.

Edit: threw a fight pic on the end.

October Shelves/Haul   2 comments

An update on the toys that were waiting for me at the end of this college term… some updated proper shelf shots are in order of my now awesome vinyl collection.  Kaiju have muscled Gokin and Transformers out of the way to take over!  Lots of M1 Lucky Bag blanks, a ton of RealXHead, including the first Gatchigon (Smokey clear with GID vinyl shards and green baby), and two non-vinyl victories, the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Megazord and Thunderzord, two of my favorite toys! Also note the Marka Nagata handpainted Captain Maxx, as well as my Toy Karma 2 Mark Nagata Neo Eyezon and Toybot Studios Rockin Kemur Seijin show pieces.  Transformers-wise, I managed to score another grail piece, Micromaster Sonic, partner to Sonic Bomber, the missing piece of my Zone Powered Masters trio!

East Coast Chogokin Summit Haul pt 1   Leave a comment

Two of my pickups from the awesome East Coast Chogokin Summit this weekend!  Onda Jeeg is an elusive and funky cheapie figure, and the Magnemo Acroyear is part of a massive Magnemo set that was a gift from the gracious host.

Shelves Update and JP G1 Haul   Leave a comment

My latest package from Japan showed up, filling in some big holes in my collection, including a MIB Metalhawk, Dezaras, and Micromaster Rabbicrater, the figure that was exclusively packed in with the original Zone OVA VHS!

Shelf Updates   Leave a comment

Pics of my shelves seem to have become pretty popular, so here’s an update including much better pics of my vinyl shelves, and the bottom shelf totally redone with my TF big-guns in anticipation of some new stuff coming!  Right now I’m loving the Max Toy Co and glow display on my nightstand.

My current shelf setup… a combination of real robots in scale and the vintage super robots I’ve been accumulating lately, along with some vinyls and vintage Transformers.

Some Vintage Toy Shots   Leave a comment

Just a couple shots… Popy Chogokin Space Sheriff Sharivan (red) with re-tightened ankles showing off his moves, and some Takara Magnemo fun with the reissue Jeeg I just got and the extra Baron Karza parts I got in a parts lot.

Popy Chogokin GA-05 Great Mazinger Scramble Dash Scratchbuild   Leave a comment

Popy is a now-defunct Japanese toy company who basically single-handedly started the die cast robot craze in the 70’s.  The initial Chogokin releases were around 5 inch tall action figures almost completely made from metal, with shooting fists and some accessories.  GA-05 is Great Mazinger, the successor bot to Mazinger Z, one of the grandaddies of the piloted giant robot genre.  One of the defining accessories of Great Mazinger is the Scramble Dash flight pack, which retracts into Great Maz (somehow :P) as opposed to the Jet Scrander on Mazinger Z, which was a separate dock-able module.

I received this Great Mazinger chogokin in a mixed lot of Transformers toys, so it is likely a Shogun Warriors release, from when Mattel imported a mix of Japanese super robot toys to the US.  The paint on the figure is pretty beat up, but the figure is intact and still tight, so I decided to make it my first fixer-up project, along with a number of others that are currently in the mail.  I purchased reproduction fists online, but was unable to find a Scramble Dash anywhere, so I decided to just make one.  I collected a couple of pictures from auctions online, and made the basic shapes from plasticard, with Green Stuff putty work for the wing tips and engine bodies.  After that, it was just a lot of Mr. Surfacer puttying and sanding… and in reality, I probably could have done more sanding and smoothing work.  The engine nozzles are Kotobukiya option parts.
